About Us

The Delhi Policy Group (DPG) is among India’s oldest think tanks with its primary focus on international and strategic issues of critical national interest. It was co-founded in 1994 by distinguished diplomat K.S. Bajpai and other eminent public intellectuals, who were pioneers in recognising the growing role of think tanks in support of democratic governments and their vibrant civil societies. DPG is a non-partisan institution and is independently funded by a non-profit Trust chaired by industrialist Siddharth Shriram.

Over past decades, DPG has established itself in both domestic and international circles, particularly in the area of national security, contributing to the public discourse on issues ranging from non-proliferation to national security strategy and capabilities that contribute to India’s comprehensive national power.

Since 2016, in keeping with India’s increasing global profile and the growing dynamism of its foreign and security policy, DPG has expanded its focus areas to include India’s broader regional and global role; India’s initiatives to strengthen its strategic periphery; India’s political, security and connectivity policies across the Indo-Pacific; India’s adversarial challenges; and the strategic partnerships that advance India’s rise. Given the hard realism required today, DPG remains mindful of the need to align India’s ambitions with matching strategies and capabilities, from diplomatic initiatives to military modernisation.

To support these goals, DPG undertakes relevant research, publishes policy reports and organises conferences on strategic and geo-political, geo-economic, and defence and security issues. The DPG Faculty comprises experienced professionals and strategists well versed in international affairs and national defence, who are assisted by a dedicated team of young researchers. DPG’s modern offices and digitally equipped conferencing facilities are located at the India Habitat Centre, which is an easy to access and prestigious landmark in the heart of New Delhi.

DPG is today recognised among the top security think tanks of India and of Asia’s major powers. It is steadily expanding its collaborative and knowledge sharing engagements with foreign counterparts, from Asia to America and Europe. It co-organises the flagship India-Japan Indo-Pacific Forum with the Japan Institute of International Affairs (JIIA) and conducts institutional dialogues and consultations with major think tank partners in the United States, Russia, Japan, France, Australia, Indonesia, Iran, Singapore and Sri Lanka.

DPG recognises that at a time of disruptive change in the global order, it must deliver research based, relevant, reliable, and realist policy perspectives to an actively engaged pubic, both at home and abroad. DPG is deeply committed to the growth of India’s national power and purpose, the security and prosperity of the people of India and India’s contributions to the global public good. We remain firmly anchored to these foundational principles which have defined DPG since its inception.
