Roundtable on Advancing BBIN Sub-regional Cooperation
A Roundtable on “Advancing BBIN Sub-regional Cooperation” was held in Dhakaon October 15 and 16, 2017. This was the ninth in a series of roundtables on the same subject organized by the Delhi Policy Group with the support of the Asia Foundation. Previous roundtables have been held in New Delhi, Kolkata, Guwahati and Kathmandu. The participants in the roundtable included Track 1 representatives, scholars in prominent think tanks, media persons and representatives of civil society in Bangladesh, Bhutan, India and Nepal. Keynote addresses were delivered at the roundtable in Dhaka, by H.E. Harsh Vardhan Shringla, High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh and Dr Maishur Rahman Economic Adviser to the Prime Minister of Bangladesh. Participants in the roundtable discussed BBIN cooperation in four Thematic Areas : Trade and Economic Issues, Transit and Multimodal Connectivity, EnergyHydropower and Water Resources Management and People to People Connectivity through Multi-sectoral Engagement.They also identified priority areas, the implementation processes and likelychallenges while drawing up the outlines of a two year Plan of Action for the BBIN sub-regional cooperation.
