DPG-JIIA Discussion on India-Japan Relations and the Regional Scenario in the Indo-Pacific

A DPG-JIIA discussion on India-Japan Relations and the regional scenario in the Indo-Pacific was held at DPG on June 21, 2016.

Participants included Mr. Shingo Yamagami, Director General of the Japan Institute for International Affairs and his two accompanying colleagues, Mr. Ryosuke Hanada and Mr. Tsutomu Nakagawa. On the DPG side, Amb. H.K. Singh, Director General, Vice Adm Anup Singh, Senior Fellow, Brig. Arun Sahgal, Senior Visiting Fellow and Mr. Rana Banerji, Senior Fellow participated.

There was in depth discussion regarding recent developments and progress in Japan-US and India-US relations; regional developments in East and South East Asia impinging on the regional security outlook; and AF-PAK security issues.

The meeting concluded with a discussion on the agenda and dates for the next DPG-JIIA Track 1.5 Dialogue on Strategic and Security Issues which will be held in New Delhi in October 2016.
