Date: January 16, 2023
On January 16, 2023 the Delhi Policy Group hosted a webinar on ‘China’s Tawang Intrusion’. The webinar addressed the following issues:
1. The tactical and operational significance of Yangtse in co-relation to the
Tawang Sector in Arunachal Pradesh. What are the possible motivations
and objectives that have led the PLA to plan this operation at the height
of winter?
2. How likely is China to undertake similar actions in other disputed areas
in Arunachal Pradesh, which China calls “South Tibet”?
3. What has been India’s military response to the ongoing standoff at the
LAC since 2020, and its preparedness level to deal with any escalation by
the PLA?
4. China’s broader geopolitical objectives in persisting with tensions along
the LAC and India’s options at operational and strategic levels.
